Carbon Black

Carbon Black is a fine black powder produced by the incomplete combustion or thermal decomposition of hydrocarbons (such as petroleum oil, natural gas, or acetylene) under controlled conditions. It consists mainly of elemental carbon in the form of very small particles with high surface area.

Key Properties

  • Deep black color – widely used as a pigment in inks, paints, and plastics

  • High surface area – enhances reinforcement when added to polymers

  • Electrical conductivity – certain grades improve conductivity in rubber or plastics

  • UV absorption – protects polymers and rubber products from sunlight degradation

Main Applications

  1. Rubber industry – essential reinforcing filler in tires, industrial rubber goods, and automotive parts, improving wear resistance and durability

  2. Pigments – used in inks, coatings, plastics, and composites for strong and lasting black color

  3. Conductive additive – applied in electrical components, batteries, and anti-static materials

  4. Adsorption uses – utilized in certain filtration and absorbent applications
