Powder NBR (Powder Nitrile Butadiene Rubber)

Powder NBR (Powder Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) is a fine powdered form of nitrile butadiene rubber, produced through the polymerization of acrylonitrile (ACN) and butadiene. It shares the same base properties as standard NBR but is processed into powder form to enhance ease of handling and blending with other materials, especially in the plastics and rubber industries. Its key characteristics include excellent resistance to oils, fuels, and many chemicals, as well as high tensile strength and abrasion resistance. The powder format offers a high surface area, enabling uniform dispersion throughout the host material and delivering consistent physical properties.

Powder NBR is widely used as an additive in PVC, ABS, HIPS, and other resins to improve flexibility, toughness, and impact resistance. It is also employed in the manufacturing of seals, O-rings, rubber hoses, belts, and oil-resistant gaskets, as well as components that demand durability in contact with oils. Furthermore, it can enhance the mechanical strength of products, reduce cracking, and extend service life.

However, Powder NBR has limitations in ozone and weather resistance compared to rubbers such as EPDM or CR, making it more suitable for indoor applications or controlled environments. The typical service temperature range is -30°C to +100°C.
